Cox Tutoring Group is a caring, student-centered tutoring practice specializing in getting your son or daughter ready for the widely required SAT and ACT tests and supporting high school students with several regular academic subjects.

We coach your child through all portions of the SATs and/or ACTs, paying particular attention to his/her individual concerns and weak spots. We provide your children with the skills, strategies and confidence they need to do well on this very important step in their academic journey.

We're experienced and thorough, and our students have enjoyed good success at "bumping up" their post-tutoring SAT scores (average increase for hundreds of my students in the classes of 2004 through 2023 was 180+ points, and I've had ACT, SAT and PSAT students who all achieved perfect scores. CTG students have been accepted at some wonderful colleges including Dartmouth, Wellesley, William and Mary, UPenn, Brown, Yale, Cornell, MIT, Olin, Tufts, West Point, BC, BU, Northeastern, Northwestern, Wesleyan, Brandeis, UMaryland, UConn, Ohio State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Furman, Loyola Maryland, George Washington, Quinnipiac, Union, Trinity, Providence, Sacred Heart, RPI, WPI, Syracuse, StAnselm, Salve Regina and Florida State. And if your student needs help brainstorming or polishing that crucial college application essay, I am experienced in this area as well, having helped hundreds of students with their college essays going back as far as 2002.

In addition to myself, CTG's team includes two other full-time tutors and four part-time.

Benjamin Cox, PhD, earned his Phi Beta Kappa key as an undergraduate at Dartmouth (2007), a Master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (2011), and his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin (2018), where he also served as both teaching assistant and instructor of record. His honors thesis at Dartmouth was recognized as the most outstanding undergraduate thesis in the Humanities. Dr Cox will prepare students for all sections of the SAT and ACT with a particular focus on the English, Writing&Language, Reading, and Science (ACT) portions of those tests. He will also offer college essay brainstorming and editing services to his tutoring students in their rising Senior summer.

Joyce McGregor, MA, has 35 years of teaching experience, principal licensure awarded in 2004, and a passion for language: reading comprehension, critical reading, writing, and grammar. She will meet her students virtually and welcomes students in middle school and early high school for tutoring in verbal reasoning before they begin to prep specifically for the SAT and ACT. Joyce will also prep students who are strong in Math but need help with the EBRW aspects of the SAT as well as the English, Reading and Science portions of the ACT.

James McGregor, PhD, earned his PhD from Emory University in May 2021 and is currently doing a post-doc at Washington University in St Louis. James was associated with CTG for a year upon his graduation from Brandeis but left to pursue his Doctorate. I'm very happy to have him back virtually. James specializes in the STEM portions of the SAT and ACT as well as Biology through AP level.

April Ratliff, PhD, completed her doctoral studies in Biology at Emory and defended her dissertation in September 2023. April has tutored for some well-known national tutoring companies, and she is a welcome addition to the virtual tutoring team of STEM specialists at Cox Tutoring.

Rebekah (Becky) Junkermeier, MA, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Dartmouth and holds an MA in the Humanities from Harvard; she works as an advisor at the University of Texas at Austin in addition to her virtual tutoring practice with CTG, where she specializes in the verbal portions of the SAT and ACT.

In addition to connecting you with these tutors, CTG may be able to refer you to experienced tutors in several other subjects. Please email me to inquire about tutors in academic subjects like middle and high school Math, Chemistry, Physics, Stats and Micro/Macro Economics.

NEWS FLASH! As of the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, CTG can now refer you to an experienced native speaker of French (ooh, la la)! If your student struggles with foreign language or just wants to learn to speak better French, email me for a referral.

I am pleased to announce that I can now refer families to Heidi Nielsen, MEd, RS, who is experienced in helping students with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities using the Wilson Reading System. CTG tutors can attest that students who learn in their younger years to be fluent readers are well placed to score highly on the SAT and ACT tests.

Our central Massachusetts office is conveniently located in Westborough just off Route 9 at 30 Lyman St, Suite 5. Our building has plenty of free parking, and the parking lot is well-traveled and well-lit. We offer tutoring for all portions of the SAT and ACT tests, help with several middle school and high school subjects, and brainstorming and editing of college application essays in our Westborough office. After-school, evening and weekend tutoring times are available.

STUDY BUDDY
Need help with test anxiety or concentration?

My colleague and friend Dan Candell, hypnotherapist and former student with learning differences, has authored a program that helps kids with difficulties in the areas of test anxiety, concentration, memorizing and retaining information, and other common school- and test-related problems. Dan offers this "Study Buddy" program at a fabulous price, only $37. Here is the link: Study Buddy. I have personally seen several students improve their concentration, relieve their test anxiety, and raise their scores significantly using the Study Buddy system.
